Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter I, § 5. Solvable Lie algebras

*Suppose that K=RK = \mathbf{R}. Let gg be a solvable Lie algebra. Every simple representation of gg is of dimension ≤2\leq 2. Every ideal of gg is a term of a decreasing sequence (gi)0≤i≤m(g_i)_{0 \leq i \leq m} of ideals such that g0=g,gm={0},dim⁡gi−1/gi≤2g_0 = g, g_m = \{0\}, \dim g_{i-1}/g_i \leq 2 (1≤i≤m1 \leq i \leq m).

This is proved in a similar way to that for Corollaries 2 and 3, using the fact that every algebraic extension of R\mathbf{R} is of degree ≤2\leq 2.*

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
