Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter I, § 6. Semi-simple Lie algebras

Let g be a semi-simple Lie algebra and ρ\rho a representation of g on a finite-dimensional vector space V. Then ρ(g)⊂sl(V)\rho(g) \subset \mathfrak{sl}(V).

The linear form x↦Tr⁡ρ(x)x \mapsto \operatorname{Tr} \rho(x) (x∈gx \in g) is zero when x is of the form [y,z][y, z] (y∈g,z∈gy \in g, z \in g) and hence on Dg=g\mathscr{D}g = g.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
