Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter I, § 6. Semi-simple Lie algebras

A semi-simple Lie algebra is the product of its simple ideals gig_i. Every ideal of g is the product of certain of the gig_i.

g=a1×⋯×amg = a_1 \times \cdots \times a_m, where the aia_i are simple. As the centre of aia_i is zero, the centralizer of aia_i in g is the product of the aja_j for j≠ij \neq i. Then let a be an ideal of g. If it does not contain aia_i, then a∩ai={0}a \cap a_i = \{0\}, hence [a,ai]={0}[a, a_i] = \{0\} and a is contained in the product of the aja_j for j≠ij \neq i. It follows that a is the product of certain of the aia_i. Hence the simple ideals of g are precisely the aia_i.

The simple ideals of a semi-simple Lie algebra are called the simple components of g.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
