Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter I, § 6. Semi-simple Lie algebras

Let gg be a Lie algebra, aa an ideal of gg and ρ\rho a semi-simple representation of gg. (a) The restriction ρ′\rho' of ρ\rho to aa is semi-simple. (b) If ρ\rho is simple, ρ′\rho' is a sum of simple representations isomorphic to one another.

Passing to the quotient by the kernel of ρ\rho, ρ\rho can be assumed to be faithful. Then gg is reductive. Let g=g1×g2g = g_1 \times g_2, where g1g_1 is the centre of gg and g2g_2 is semi-simple. Then a=a1×a2a = a_1 \times a_2, where a1⊂g1a_1 \subset g_1, a2⊂g2a_2 \subset g_2 and a1a_1 is the centre of aa. The elements of ρ(g1)\rho(g_1), and in particular those of ρ(a1)\rho(a_1), are semi-simple (Theorem 4) and hence ρ′\rho' is semi-simple (Theorem 4). Hence (a). Assertion (b) follows from (a), using § 3, no. 1, Corollary to Proposition 1.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
