Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter I, § 6. Semi-simple Lie algebras

Let gg be a Lie algebra and hh a Lie subalgebra of gg. hh is called reductive in gg if the representation x↦ad⁡gxx \mapsto \operatorname{ad}_g x of hh is semi-simple.

This representation admits as subrepresentation the adjoint representation of hh. Hence, if hh is reductive in gg, hh is reductive. On the other hand, to say that a Lie algebra is reductive in itself is equivalent to saying that it is reductive.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
