Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter II, § 2. Free Lie algebras

Let gg be a Lie algebra and (xi)i∈I(x_i)_{i \in I} a generating family of gg. The nn-th term Cng\mathscr{C}^n g of the lower central series of gg is the module generated by the iterated brackets [xi1,[xi2,…,[xip−1,xip]…]][x_{i_1}, [x_{i_2}, \ldots, [x_{i_{p-1}}, x_{i_p}] \ldots]] for p≥np \geq n, and i1,…,ipi_1, \ldots, i_p in II. Let ff be the homomorphism of L(I)L(I) into gg such that f(i)=xif(i) = x_i for all i∈Ii \in I. As (xi)i∈I(x_i)_{i \in I} generates gg, g=f(L(I))g = f(L(I)), whence Cng=f(Cn(L(I)))\mathscr{C}^n g = f(\mathscr{C}^n(L(I))) by Proposition 4 of Chapter I, § 1, no. 5. The corollary then follows from assertions (b) and (c) of Proposition 7.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
