Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter III, § 3. Passage from a Lie group to its Lie algebra

Suppose that K is of characteristic p>0p > 0. For all a∈L(G)a \in L(G), ap∈L(G)a^p \in L(G) and ad⁡(ap)=(ad⁡a)p\operatorname{ad}(a^p) = (\operatorname{ad} a)^p (the power apa^p being calculated in U(G)U(G)).

If a∈L(G)a \in L(G), aa is primitive in U(G)U(G), hence apa^p is primitive in U(G)U(G) (Chapter II, § 1, no. 2, Remark 1) and hence ap∈L(G)a^p \in L(G). Let σa\sigma_a (resp. τa\tau_a) be the linear mapping x↦a∗xx \mapsto a * x (resp. x↦x∗ax \mapsto x * a) of U(G)U(G) into U(G)U(G). For all x∈U(G)x \in U(G), (ad⁡a)(x)=(σa−τa)(x)(\operatorname{ad} a)(x) = (\sigma_a - \tau_a)(x) and hence (ad⁡a)p=(σa−τa)p(\operatorname{ad} a)^p = (\sigma_a - \tau_a)^p. But σa\sigma_a and τa\tau_a commute and therefore (σa−τa)p=(σa)p−(τa)p=τap−σap(\sigma_a - \tau_a)^p = (\sigma_a)^p - (\tau_a)^p = \tau_a^p - \sigma_a^p, whence the second assertion.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
