Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter V, § 2. Reflections

Assume that m is finite and that θ=π/m\theta = \pi / m. If n∈Zn \in \mathbf{Z}, let CnC_n be the union of the open half-lines Δ1\Delta_1 starting at 0 such that

nθ<(Δ‾,Δ1‾)<(n+1)θ. n \theta < (\overline{\Delta}, \overline{\Delta_1}) < (n + 1) \theta.

The CnC_n for −m≤n<m-m \leq n < m are connected open subsets forming a partition of E−⋃nDnE - \bigcup_n D_n (where Dn=ρnθ(D)D_n = \rho_{n \theta}(D)). These are therefore the chambers determined in E by the system of m lines DnD_n (1≤n≤m1 \leq n \leq m). We have C2k=ρ2kθ(C)C_{2k} = \rho_{2k \theta}(C) and C2k−1=ρ2kθs(C)C_{2k-1} = \rho_{2k \theta s}(C). Moreover, Cn=CC_n = C if and only if n∈2mZn \in 2m \mathbf{Z}. Consequently, the group W permutes the chambers CnC_n simply-transitively.

We show finally that, if w∈Ww \in W is such that the chambers C and w(C)w(C) are on opposite sides of the line D, then l(sw)=l(w)−1l(sw) = l(w) - 1 (the lengths being taken with respect to S={s,s′}S = \{s, s'\}). Indeed, the assumption implies that w(C)=Cnw(C) = C_n with −m≤n<0-m \leq n < 0. If n=−2kn = -2k, we have w=(ss′)kw = (ss')^k and sw=s′(ss′)k−1sw = s'(ss')^{k-1}, so l(w)=2kl(w) = 2k and l(sw)=2k−1l(sw) = 2k - 1 (Chap. IV, § 1, no. 2, Remark). If n=−2k+1n = -2k + 1, we have

w=(ss′)k−1sandsw=(s′s)k−1, w = (ss')^{k-1}s \quad \text{and} \quad sw = (s's)^{k-1},

hence l(w)=2k−1l(w) = 2k - 1 and l(sw)=2k−2l(sw) = 2k - 2. Q.E.D.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
