Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter V, § 4. The geometric representation of a Coxeter group

Assume that (W,S)(W, S) is irreducible (Chap. IV, §1, no. 9). Let E0E^0 be the subspace of E orthogonal to E with respect to BMB_M. The group W acts trivially on E0E^0, and every subspace of E distinct from E and stable under W is contained in E0E^0.

If x∈E0x \in E^0, then σs(x)=x−2BM(es,x)es=x\sigma_s(x) = x - 2B_M(e_s, x)e_s = x for all s∈Ss \in S. Since W is generated by S, it follows that W acts trivially on E0E^0.

Let E′E' be a subspace of E stable under W. Let s,s′∈Ss, s' \in S be two elements that are linked in the graph Γ\Gamma of (W,S)(W, S) (Chap. IV, §1, no. 9); recall that this means that m(s,s′)≥3m(s, s') \geq 3. Suppose that es∈E′e_s \in E'. Then σs′(es)∈E′\sigma_{s'}(e_s) \in E' and since the coefficient of es′e_{s'} in σs′(es)\sigma_{s'}(e_s) is non-zero, we have es′∈E′e_{s'} \in E'. Since Γ\Gamma is connected, it follows that, if E′E' contains one of the ese_s it contains them all and coincides with E. Except in this case, it follows from Prop. 3 of §2, no. 2 that, for all s∈Ss \in S, E′E' is contained in the hyperplane HsH_s orthogonal to ese_s. Since the intersection of the HsH_s is equal to E0E^0, this proves the proposition.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
