Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter VI, § 1. Root systems

Let σ\sigma be half the sum of the elements >0> 0 of R−R^- (for B−B^-). For all α∈V\alpha \in V, the sum of the coordinates of α\alpha with respect to the basis BB is ⟨α,σ⟩\langle \alpha, \sigma \rangle. If α∈R\alpha \in R, this sum is equal to 12∑β∈R+(C)n(α,β)\frac{1}{2} \sum_{\beta \in R_+ (\mathbf{C})} n(\alpha, \beta).

Interchanging the roles of RR and R−R^- above, we have ⟨α,σ⟩=1\langle \alpha, \sigma \rangle = 1 for all α∈B\alpha \in B, hence the corollary.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
