General Topology, chapter I, § 2. Continuous functions

Least upper bound of a set of topologies. Every family (Ti)i∈I(\mathfrak{T}_i)_{i \in I} of topologies on a set XX has a least upper bound T\mathfrak{T} in the ordered set of all topologies on XX, i.e. there exists a topology on XX which is coarsest among all the topologies on XX which are finer than each of the Ti\mathfrak{T}_i. To see this we may apply Proposition 4, taking YiY_i to be the set XX with the topology Ti\mathfrak{T}_i, and fif_i to be the identity map X→YiX \to Y_i; T\mathfrak{T} is the coarsest topology for which all the mappings fif_i are continuous.

Let S\mathfrak{S} be an arbitrary set of subsets of a set XX; amongst the topologies T\mathfrak{T} on XX for which the sets of S\mathfrak{S} are open, there is a topology T0\mathfrak{T}_0 which is coarser than all the others and which is called the topology generated by S\mathfrak{S}. For each set U∈SU \in \mathfrak{S} let TU\mathfrak{T}_U be the topology whose open sets are ∅,U\varnothing, U and XX [it is clear that this set of subsets of XX satisfies (O_I) and (O_{II})]; then T0\mathfrak{T}_0 is just the least upper bound of the topologies TU\mathfrak{T}_U. By Proposition 4, if B\mathfrak{B} is the set of finite intersections of sets belonging to S\mathfrak{S}, then B\mathfrak{B} is a base of the topology T0\mathfrak{T}_0. We say that S\mathfrak{S} is a subbase of T0\mathfrak{T}_0.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
