General Topology, chapter I, § 6. Filters

Two filter bases B,B′\mathfrak{B}, \mathfrak{B}' on a set XX are equivalent if and only if every set of B\mathfrak{B} contains a set of B′\mathfrak{B}' and every set of B′\mathfrak{B}' contains a set of B\mathfrak{B}.

Examples of filter bases. 1) Let XX be a topological space. Proposition 3 shows that the bases of the neighbourhood filter of a point x∈Xx \in X are precisely the fundamental systems of neighbourhoods of xx (§ 1, no. 3, Definition 5).

2) Let XX be a non-empty directed set with respect to a relation (σ)(\sigma) (Set Theory, Chapter III, § 1, no. 10). For each a∈Xa \in X, the set S(a)S(a) of all x∈Xx \in X such that a(σ)xa(\sigma)x will be called the section of XX relative to the element aa. Then the set S\mathscr{S} of sections of XX is a filter base, for it clearly satisfies (BII)(\mathrm{B}_{\mathrm{II}}), and if a,ba, b are any two elements of XX, then there is by hypothesis an element c∈Xc \in X such that a(σ)ca(\sigma)c and b(σ)cb(\sigma)c, and therefore

S(c)⊂S(a)∩S(b), S(c) \subset S(a) \cap S(b),
so that (B1)(\mathrm{B}_1) is satisfied. The filter generated by S\mathscr{S} is called the section filter of the directed set XX.

For example, the Fréchet filter (no. 1) is the section filter of the ordered set N\mathbf{N}, considered as directed by the relation ⩽\leqslant. Let F\mathfrak{F} be a filter on a set ZZ. Since F\mathfrak{F} is directed with respect to the relation ⊃\supset [by reason of axiom (FII)(\mathrm{F}_{\mathrm{II}})] we can define a section filter on F\mathfrak{F}; here a section of F\mathfrak{F} relative to a set A∈FA \in \mathfrak{F} is the set S(A)S(A) of all M∈FM \in \mathfrak{F} such that M⊂AM \subset A. This filter is called the section filter of the filter F\mathfrak{F}.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
