General Topology, chapter I, § 10. Proper mappings

Let XX be a topological space such that the constant mapping X→PX \to P is proper. Then XX is quasi-compact.

(We shall see a little later on (Theorem 1, Corollary 1) that this property characterizes quasi-compact spaces.)

We may restrict ourselves to the case where XX is not empty. Let F\mathfrak{F} be a filter on XX, and X′=X∪{ω}X' = X \cup \{ \omega \} the topological space associated with F\mathfrak{F} (§6§ 6, no. 5, Example). Let Δ\Delta be the subset of X×X′X \times X' consisting of all (x,x)(x, x) where x∈Xx \in X, and let F=Δ‾F = \overline{\Delta} be the closure of Δ\Delta in X×X′X \times X'. In view of the hypothesis on XX, the image of FF under the projection X×X′→X′X \times X' \to X' is closed in X′X'; this image contains XX and therefore contains ω\omega, which lies in the closure of XX; in other words, there is a point x∈Xx \in X such that (x,ω)∈F(x, \omega) \in F. By the definition of the topology of X×X′X \times X', this means that, for each neighbourhood VV of xx in XX and each M∈FM \in \mathfrak{F}, we have (V×M)∩Δ≠∅(V \times M) \cap \Delta \neq \emptyset, i.e. V∩M≠∅V \cap M \neq \emptyset, so that xx is a cluster point of the filter F\mathfrak{F}, and therefore XX is quasi-compact.

Q.E.D.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
