General Topology, chapter I, § 11. Connectedness

A subset AA of a topological space XX is said to be a connected set if the subspace AA of XX is connected.

For AA to be a connected subset of XX it is necessary and sufficient that, for each covering of AA by two open (or closed) subsets B,CB, C of XX such that A∩BA \cap B and A∩CA \cap C are non-empty, we have A∩B∩C≠∅A \cap B \cap C \neq \emptyset.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
