General Topology, chapter II, § 2. Uniformly continuous functions

A mapping ff of a uniform space XX into a uniform space X′X' is said to be uniformly continuous if, for each entourage V′V' of X′X', there is an entourage VV of XX such that the relation (x,y)∈V(x, y) \in V implies (f(x),f(y))∈V′(f(x), f(y)) \in V'.

In more expressive terms we may say that ff is uniformly continuous if f(x)f(x) and f(y)f(y) are as close to each other as we please whenever xx and yy are close enough.

If we put g=f×fg = f \times f, then Definition 1 means that whenever V′V' is an entourage of X′X', g−1‾(V′)\overline{g^{-1}}(V') is an entourage of XX.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
