General Topology, chapter II, § 4. Relations between uniform spaces and compact spaces

In a uniform space every subset of a precompact set, every finite union of precompact sets and the closure of every precompact set are precompact.

The first two assertions are immediate consequences of Theorem 3. Let XX be a uniform space, AA a precompact subset of XX, and let i:X→X^i : X \to \hat{X} be the canonical mapping. i(A‾)i(\overline{A}) is contained in the closure of i(A)i(A) in X^\hat{X} (Chapter I, § 2, no. 1, Theorem 1), hence the closure of i(A‾)i(\overline{A}) in X^\hat{X} is contained in a compact set and is therefore compact.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
