General Topology, chapter VII, § 1. Subgroups and quotient groups of $\mathbf{R}^n$

Every non-discrete closed subgroup of Rn\mathbf{R}^n contains a line passing through oo.

Let (xp)p∈N(x_p)_{p \in \mathbf{N}} be an infinite sequence of points of GG such that xp≠ox_p \neq o and lim⁡p→∞xp=o\lim_{p \to \infty} x_p = o; by hypothesis such a sequence exists. Let PP be an open cube with centre oo, containing the xpx_p. Let kpk_p denote the largest integer h>0h > 0 such that hxp∈Phx_p \in P (since PP is a bounded box and xp≠ox_p \neq o, the existence of kpk_p follows from Archimedes' axiom). The points kpxpk_p x_p lie in a compact set P‾\overline{P}, hence the sequence (kpxp)p∈N(k_p x_p)_{p \in \mathbf{N}} has a cluster point a∈P‾a \in \overline{P}. If ∥(kp+1)xp−a∥≤ε\| (k_p + 1)x_p - a \| \leq \varepsilon, we have

∥(kp+1)xp−a∥≤ε+∥xp∥, \| (k_p + 1)x_p - a \| \leq \varepsilon + \| x_p \|,

and since lim⁡p→∞xp=o\lim_{p \to \infty} x_p = o, it follows that aa is also a cluster point of the sequence ((kp+1)xp)((k_p + 1)x_p), whose points belong to the closed set CP\mathbf{C}P, by definition of kpk_p; hence a∈P‾∩CPa \in \overline{P} \cap \mathbf{C}P (the frontier of PP, Fig. 5), which implies a≠oa \neq o. Moreover, since GG is closed, we have a∈Ga \in G. Let tt be any real number; since ∣tkp−[tkp]∣<1|tk_p - [tk_p]| < 1, the relation ∥kpxp−a∥≤ε\| k_p x_p - a \| \leq \varepsilon implies that ∥[tkp]xp−ta∥≤∣t∣ε+∥xp∥\| [tk_p]x_p - ta \| \leq |t| \varepsilon + \| x_p \|; since lim⁡p→∞xp=o\lim_{p \to \infty} x_p = o, tata is a

cluster point of the sequence ([tk_p]x_p); but the points of this sequence belong to G, and consequently ta ∈ G, since G is closed. This completes the proof.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
