General Topology, chapter IX, § 1. Generation of a uniformity by a family of pseudometrics; uniformizable spaces

A uniformity U\mathscr{U} on XX is defined by the family Φ\Phi of all pseudometrics on XX which are uniformly continuous on X×XX \times X. For clearly the uniformity defined by the family Φ\Phi is coarser than U\mathscr{U}; conversely, Theorem 1 shows that there is a subfamily of Φ\Phi which defines the uniformity U\mathscr{U} and therefore the uniformity defined by Φ\Phi is finer than U\mathscr{U}.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
