General Topology, chapter IX, § 2. Metric spaces and metrizable spaces

A metric space XX is complete if and only if every Cauchy sequence in XX is convergent.

Let X^\hat{X} be the completion of XX. If there is a point x∈X^x \in \hat{X} which does not belong to XX, then there is a sequence (xn)(x_n) of points of XX which converges to xx, and this is a non-convergent Cauchy sequence in XX.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
