General Topology, chapter IX, § 4. Normal spaces

Given a family (Ai)i∈I(A_i)_{i \in I} of subsets of a topological space XX, a family (fi)i∈I(f_i)_{i \in I} of real-valued functions defined on XX is said to be subordinate to the family (Ai)i∈I(A_i)_{i \in I} if we have Supp⁡(fi)⊂Ai\operatorname{Supp}(f_i) \subset A_i for each index i∈Ii \in I.

A continuous partition of unity on XX is any family (fi)i∈I(f_i)_{i \in I} of real-valued continuous functions ≥0\geq 0 on XX whose supports form a locally finite family and which are such that ∑i∈Ifi(x)=1\sum_{i \in I} f_i(x) = 1 for all x∈Xx \in X.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
