General Topology, chapter IX, § 4. Normal spaces

Given any locally finite open covering (Ai)i∈I(A_i)_{i \in I} of a normal space XX, there exists a continuous partition of unity (fi)i∈I(f_i)_{i \in I} on XX, subordinate to the covering (Ai)i∈I(A_i)_{i \in I}.

By Theorem 3 there exists an open covering (Bi)i∈I(B_i)_{i \in I} of XX such that B‾i⊂Ai\overline{B}_i \subset A_i for each i∈Ii \in I, and it is clear that the covering (Bi)(B_i) is locally finite. By axiom (OV′′)(O''_V), for each i∈Ii \in I there exists an open set CiC_i such that B‾i⊂Ci⊂C‾i⊂Ai\overline{B}_i \subset C_i \subset \overline{C}_i \subset A_i. By axiom (OV)(O_V), for each i∈Ii \in I there exists a continuous mapping gig_i of XX into [0,1][0,1], such that gi(x)=1g_i(x) = 1 on B‾i\overline{B}_i and such that the support of g‾i\overline{g}_i is contained in C‾i\overline{C}_i, and therefore contained in AiA_i. Since (Bi)(B_i) is a covering of XX, we have ∑i∈Igi(x)>0\sum_{i \in I} g_i(x) > 0 for each x∈Xx \in X; if we put

fi(x)=gi(x)∑i∈Igi(x) f_i(x) = \frac{g_i(x)}{\sum_{i \in I} g_i(x)}
for all i∈Ii \in I and all x∈Xx \in X, then the fif_i form a continuous partition of unity subordinate to the covering (Ai)(A_i).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
