General Topology, chapter X, § 1. The uniformity of $\mathscr{G}$-convergence

Let XX be a topological space which is either metrizable or locally compact, and let YY be a uniform space. Then C(X;Y)C(X; Y) is closed in the uniform space Fc(X;Y)F_c(X; Y); if in addition YY is complete, the uniform space Cc(X;Y)C_c(X; Y) is complete.

By virtue of Corollary 2 it is enough to show that, if we take S\mathscr{S} to be the set of compact subsets of XX, we have C~S(X;Y)=C(X;Y)\tilde{C}_\mathscr{S}(X; Y) = C(X; Y) in both cases under consideration. This is clear if XX is locally compact. If XX is metrizable, and u:X→Yu : X \to Y is a mapping whose restriction to every compact subset of XX is continuous, then for each x∈Xx \in X and each sequence (zn)(z_n) of points of XX which converges to xx, we have u(x)=lim⁡n→∞u(zn)u(x) = \lim_{n \to \infty} u(z_n), and therefore uu is continuous at xx (Chapter IX, § 2, no. 6, Proposition 10).

Note that the argument above applies whenever every point of xx has a countable fundamental system of neighbourhoods.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
