General Topology, chapter X, § 3. Special function spaces

Let XX be a set and YY a metric space. The set B(X;Y)\mathscr{B}(X; Y) of bounded mappings is both open and closed in the space Fu(X;Y)\mathscr{F}_u(X; Y).

If uu is bounded, then every mapping v:X→Yv : X \to Y such that for all x∈Xx \in X, we have d(u(x),v(x))≤1d(u(x), v(x)) \leq 1 is bounded, because

d(v(x),v(x0))≤d(u(x),u(x0))+2; d(v(x), v(x_0)) \leq d(u(x), u(x_0)) + 2;

hence B(X;Y)\mathscr{B}(X; Y) is open. On the other hand, if uu lies in the closure of B(X;Y)\mathscr{B}(X; Y) in Fu(X;Y)\mathscr{F}_u(X; Y), there is a mapping u0∈B(X;Y)u_0 \in \mathscr{B}(X; Y) such that d(u(x),u0(x))≤1d(u(x), u_0(x)) \leq 1 for all x∈Xx \in X; hence uu is bounded.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
