Commutative Algebra, chapter IX, Appendix 0.

Let AA be a local ring. An AA-algebra BB is said to be an elementary enlargement of AA if BB is isomorphic to the AA-algebra A[X]A[X], or else if there exists a monic polynomial PP in A[X]A[X], whose image in κA[X]\kappa_A[X] is irreducible, such that BB is isomorphic to the AA-algebra A[X]/(P)A[X]/(P).

Let BB be an elementary enlargement of AA. From the preceding there result the following properties:

a) The ring BB is local and the canonical homomorphism from AA into BB is local and flat, and in particular injective (I, § 3, no 5, prop. 8).

b) The residue field κB\kappa_B of BB is a monogenic extension of the residue field κA\kappa_A of AA. If κA\kappa_A is of finite degree dd over κA\kappa_A, then BB is a free AA-module of rank dd.

c) We have mB=mABm_B = m_A B. In particular, if AA is a field, the same is true of BB. An extension of fields is an elementary enlargement if and only if it is monogenic.

d) If AA is noetherian, the same is true of BB.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
