Commutative Algebra, chapter IX, Appendix 0.

Let A be a local ring and B an inflation of A.

a) The ring B is local and one has mAB=mBm_A B = m_B.

b) The A-algebra B is faithfully flat.

c) The canonical homomorphism

γB:gr⁡(A)⊗κAκB→gr⁡(B) \gamma_B : \operatorname{gr}(A) \otimes_{\kappa_A} \kappa_B \to \operatorname{gr}(B)

is bijective.

d) If A is noetherian, the same is true of B and the Hilbert-Samuel series (VIII, § 4, No. 3) of A and B are equal.

Let (Bλ)λ∈Λ(B_\lambda)_{\lambda \in \Lambda} be a family of subalgebras of B satisfying conditions a), b) and c) of Def. 2.

Let Λ′\Lambda' be the set of indices λ∈Λ\lambda \in \Lambda such that, for every μ≤λ\mu \leq \lambda in Λ\Lambda, the A-algebra BμB_\mu is local and faithfully flat, and such that one has mBμ=mABμm_{B_\mu} = m_A B_\mu. Suppose that Λ′≠Λ\Lambda' \neq \Lambda and let vv be the smallest element of Λ−Λ′\Lambda - \Lambda'. One has α∈Λ′\alpha \in \Lambda', hence v≠αv \neq \alpha. Now SvS_v is contained in Λ′\Lambda'. If SvS_v has no greatest element, one has Bv=⋃λ∈SvBλB_v = \bigcup_{\lambda \in S_v} B_\lambda and vv belongs to Λ′\Lambda' by Prop. 1 of No. 1. If SvS_v has a greatest element μ\mu, one has μ∈Λ′\mu \in \Lambda' and BvB_v is an elementary inflation of BμB_\mu: one again has v∈Λ′v \in \Lambda' by the remarks following Def. 1, whence a contradiction.

When A is noetherian, one proves analogously that the set Λ′′\Lambda'' of indices λ∈Λ\lambda \in \Lambda such that the ring BλB_\lambda is noetherian is equal to Λ\Lambda.

Thus one has ω∈Λ′\omega \in \Lambda', whence assertions a) and b). When A is noetherian, one has ω∈Λ′′\omega \in \Lambda'', hence B=BωB = B_\omega is noetherian.

Assertion c) follows from a), b), and Theorem 1 of III, § 5, No. 2. Suppose that A (hence B) is noetherian; since one has

[mBn/mBn+1:κB]=[mAn/mAn+1:κA] [m_B^n / m_B^{n+1} : \kappa_B] = [m_A^n / m_A^{n+1} : \kappa_A]

for every n∈Nn \in \mathbf{N}, the Hilbert-Samuel series of A and B are equal.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
