Commutative Algebra, chapter X, § 4. Anneaux réguliers

Let ρ:A→B\rho : A \to B be a local homomorphism of noetherian local rings. Suppose that AA is regular and that ρ\rho makes BB into a finitely generated AA-module. Then dpA(B)≥dim⁡(A)−dim⁡(B)dp_A(B) \geq \dim(A) - \dim(B). For BB to be a Macaulay ring, it is necessary and sufficient that one have dpA(B)=dim⁡(A)−dim⁡(B)dp_A(B) = \dim(A) - \dim(B). For BB to be a Macaulay ring of dimension equal to dim⁡(A)\dim(A), it is necessary and sufficient that the AA-module BB be free.

In fact, one has dim⁡(B)=dim⁡A(B)\dim(B) = \dim_A(B) (VIII, § 2, No. 3, th. 1); moreover, BB is a Macaulay ring if and only if it is a Macaulay AA-module (§ 2, No. 6, prop. 8). It is therefore enough to apply corollaries 1 and 2.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
