Commutative Algebra, chapter X, § 4. Anneaux réguliers

Let AA be a noetherian ring. The following conditions are equivalent:

(i) one has dh(A)<+∞\mathrm{dh}(A) < +\infty ; (ii) AA is regular and one has dim⁡(A)<+∞\dim(A) < +\infty.

If these conditions are satisfied, one has dim⁡(A)=dh(A)\dim(A) = \mathrm{dh}(A).

If the ring AA is regular, one has for every maximal ideal mm of AA the equality dim⁡(Am)=dh(Am)\dim(A_m) = \mathrm{dh}(A_m) (No. 1, prop. 1), and therefore

dh(A)=sup⁡mdh(Am)=sup⁡mdim⁡(Am)=dim⁡A \mathrm{dh}(A) = \sup_m \mathrm{dh}(A_m) = \sup_m \dim(A_m) = \dim A

(§3§ 3, No. 2, prop. 3 and VIII, §1§ 1, No. 3, prop. 8). On the other hand, if dh(A)<+∞\mathrm{dh}(A) < +\infty, the ring AA is regular by prop. 4. The corollary follows.

There exist regular noetherian rings of infinite dimension (VIII, §5§ 5, exerc. 6).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
