Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, II

Bourbaki marks this one as harder than the rest.

Let GG be a torsion-free nilpotent group of finite type. Now prove that, if nn is sufficiently large, GG can be embedded in the strict lower triangular group of order nn over Z\mathbf{Z}. (Let (i,Gˉ)(i, \bar{G}) be a P\mathbf{P}-envelope of GG, cf. § 5, Exer. 6; endowed with its canonical Lie algebra structure (Exer. 4), Gˉ\bar{G} is a nilpotent Q\mathbf{Q}-Lie algebra of finite dimension. Apply Ado's theorem (Chap. I, § 7) to Gˉ\bar{G} and deduce an embedding of Gˉ\bar{G} in a strict triangular group over Q\mathbf{Q}. Pass from Q\mathbf{Q} to Z\mathbf{Z} by conjugating by a suitable integral diagonal matrix.)
