General Topology, X

Let GG be a group of homeomorphisms of a Hausdorff uniform space XX. Suppose that GG is equicontinuous and that GG, endowed with the discrete topology, operates properly on XX. Suppose, furthermore, that the set of points x∈Xx \in X, which are not fixed points of any homeomorphism u∈Gu \in G other than the identity, is dense in XX. Under these conditions, show that there is an open set FF in XX such that F∩U(F)=∅F \cap U(F) = \varnothing for all u∈Gu \in G other than the identity, and such that the canonical image of FF in the orbit space X/GX/G is a dense open subset of X/GX/G, homeomorphic to FF (use Exercise 16 and Zorn’s lemma).
