Algebra, VIII, p. 190, § 11. Grothendieck Groups

Let E, E′E', and E′′E'' be A-modules of finite length and

0 // E′i{E'}^i // E p^p // E′′E'' // 0

an exact sequence. We have ℓS(E)=ℓS(E′)+ℓS(E′′)\ell_S(E) =\ell_S(E') +\ell_S(E'').

Let Σ′\Sigma ' and Σ′′\Sigma '' be Jordan–Hölder series of i(E′)i(E') and E/i(E′)E/i(E'), respectively. There exists a Jordan–Hölder series Σ of E whose sequence of quotients can be obtained by juxtaposing the sequence of quotients of Σ and that of Σ′\Sigma ' (I, §4, No. 8, p. 44).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
