Algebra, VIII, p. 342, § 17. Reduced Norms and Traces

Let aa and a′a' be elements of A and λ\lambda an element of K. We have the relations

(34) PcrdA/K(a;a)=0_{A/K}(a;a) = 0,

(35) PcrdA/K(λa;λX)=λn_{A/K}(\lambda a;\lambda X) =\lambda^n PcrdA/K(a;X)_{A/K}(a; X),

(36) TrdA/K(a+a′)=_{A/K}(a+a') = TrdA/K(a)+_{A/K}(a) + TrdA/K(a′)_{A/K}(a'),

TrdA/K(λa)=λ_{A/K}(\lambda a) =\lambda TrdA/K(a)_{A/K}(a),

(37) TrdA/K(aa′)=_{A/K}(aa') = TrdA/K(a′a)_{A/K}(a'a),

(38) NrdA/K(aa′)=_{A/K}(aa') = NrdA/K(a)⋅_{A/K}(a)\cdot NrdA/K(a′)_{A/K}(a'),

NrdA/K(λa)=λn_{A/K}(\lambda a) =\lambda^n NrdA/K(a)_{A/K}(a),

(39) TrdA/K(1)=n_{A/K}(1) =n, NrdA/K(1)=1_{A/K}(1) = 1.

Since A is central simple and has reduced degree nn over K, there exist an extension L of K and a vector space V of dimension nn over L such that A(L)A_{(L)} is isomorphic to the algebra EndL(V)_L(V) (VIII, p. 252, Theorem 1). Corollary 2 then follows from Corollary 1 and the properties of the trace and determinant of an endomorphism. In particular, formula (34) follows from the Cayley– Hamilton theorem (III, §8, No. 11, p. 541, Proposition 20, cf. also VIII, p. 338, Remark 2).

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
