Algebra, VIII, p. 353
Let D be a field with center K of degree over K. Let be an element of D of degree over K, and let be its minimal polynomial over K.
a) Prove that a monic polynomial in D[X] (VIII, p. 11) of degree cannot be right divisible by all polynomials for (observe that the monic generator of the ideal has coefficients in K).
b) Let be three monic polynomials in D[X] such that and is a right divisor of but not of . Write with . Prove that is a right divisor of .
c) Deduce from a) and b) that there exist elements of D such that we have
(observe that is right divisible by all polynomial ).
d) Deduce that Trd (resp. Nrd) is the sum (resp. product) of elements of the form (apply Proposition 8 of VIII, p. 347).
