Algebra, VIII, p. 357, § 18. Simple Algebras over a Finite Field

Every finite field is commutative.

Let D be a finite field, and let K be its center. The K-algebra D is central simple of degree m2m^2, where mm is a strictly positive integer. The reduced norm is a homogeneous polynomial mapping Nrd:D→K: D\rightarrow K of degree mm (VIII, p. 345, Proposition 6), and we have Nrd(aa)≠0\not= 0 for every a≠0a\not= 0 in D (VIII, p. 340, Proposition 3). The corollary above implies that m⩾m2m\geqslant m^2, and therefore m=1m= 1. So we have D = K.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
