Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter IX, § 7. Irreducible representations of connected compact Lie groups
Let be an element of X(T). The following conditions are equivalent:
(i) (resp. ) for all such that ;
(ii) for all such that is a linear combination with positive coefficients (resp. positive coefficients not all zero) of simple roots;
(iii) (resp. ) for every positive root ;
(iv) (resp. ) for every simple root .
The equivalence if (iii) and (iv) is immediate. Since the set of the can be identified with the inverse root system of §4, no. 5), the equivalence of (i) and (iii) follows from Chap. VI, §1, no. 6, Prop. 18 and Cor. The implication (ii) (i) is trivial, and the opposite implication follows from loc. cit.
Denote by the set of elements of X(T) such that for every positive root . The elements of are said to be dominant. They form a fundamental domain for the operation of W on X(T) (Chap. VI, §1, no. 10). We have .
If G is simply-connected, for each simple root there exists an element of X(T) such that for every simple root , that is, for every simple root ; the are called the fundamental dominant weights; they form a basis of the commutative group X(T) and of the commutative monoid ; more precisely, every element of X(T) can be written in the form .
Denote by the element of such that
We have for every simple root (Chap. VI, §1, no. 10, Prop. 29). If G is simply-connected, is the sum of the fundamental dominant weights.
Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
