Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter IX, § 7. Irreducible representations of connected compact Lie groups
Let be a linear representation of the complex Lie algebra on a finite dimensional complex vector space V. There exists a representation of G on V such that if and only if is semi-simple and the weights of on V belong to .
If there exists a representation of G such that , then is semi-simple because G is connected and is semi-simple (Chap. III, §6, no. 5, Cor. 2 of Prop. 13), and the weights of on V belong to the image of . Thus, the condition is necessary; we shall prove that it is sufficient. If is semi-simple, V is the direct sum of the , where belongs to the set of weights of on V (Chap. VII, §2, no. 4, Cor. 3 of Th. 2); if all the weights belong to the image of , there exists a representation of T on V such that indeed, it suffices to put for and . The lemma now follows from Prop. 8 of §2, no. 6.
Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
