Lie Groups and Lie Algebras, chapter IX, § 4. Root system associated to a compact group

— Let H be a commutative compact Lie group, and (ai)i∈I(a_i)_{i\in I} a family of elements of X(H)X(H); the aia_i generate X(H)X(H) if and only if the intersection of the Ker⁡ai\operatorname{Ker}a_i reduces to the identity element.

By Spectral Theories, Chap. II, §1, no. 7, Th. 4, the orthogonal complement of the kernel of aia_i is the subgroup AiA_i of X(H)X(H) generated by aia_i; by loc. cit., Cor. 2 of Th. 4, the orthogonal complement of ⋂Ker⁡ai\bigcap\operatorname{Ker}a_i is the subgroup of X(H)X(H) generated by the AiA_i, hence the proposition.

Bourbaki sets the proof directly after the statement, and the corpus does not separate them, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
