Commutative Algebra, chapter II, § 3. Local rings. Passage from the local to the global

Let MM be an A-module, N a submodule of MM and xx an element of MM. For x∈Nx \in N, it is necessary and sufficient that, for all m∈Rm \in R, the canonical image of xx in MM, belong to NN.

Let xˉ\bar{x} be the class of xx in M/NM/N; to say that x∈Nx \in N means that the A-linear mapping u:a↦axˉu : a \mapsto a\bar{x} from AA to M/NM/N is zero. Now, (M/N)m(M/N)_m is identified with Mm/NmM_m/N_m (§ 2, no. 4, Theorem 1) and um:Am→Mm/Nmu_m : A_m \to M_m/N_m with the mapping A↦λxˉmA \mapsto \lambda \bar{x}_m, where xˉm\bar{x}_m is the class mod. NN, of the canonical image of xx in MM. As the relation u=0u = 0 is equivalent to um=0u_m = 0 for all mm by Theorem 1, this proves the corollary.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
