Commutative Algebra, chapter II, § 4. Spectra of rings and supports of modules

Let AA be a ring, rr a nil ideal of AA and h:A→A/rh : A \to A/r the canonical homomorphism. For every finite orthogonal family (ei′)i∈I(e'_i)_{i \in I} of idempotents of A/rA/r such that ∑i∈Iei′=1\sum_{i \in I} e'_i = 1, there exists a finite orthogonal family (ei)i∈I(e_i)_{i \in I} of idempotents of AA such that ∑i∈Iei=1\sum_{i \in I} e_i = 1 and h(ei)=ei′h(e_i) = e'_i for all i∈Ii \in I.

We write A′=A/rA' = A/r. We know (Remark following Proposition 13) that

ah:Spec⁡(A′)→Spec⁡(A) ah : \operatorname{Spec}(A') \to \operatorname{Spec}(A)

is a homeomorphism, every prime ideal of AA containing rr by hypothesis. Proposition 15 shows that there exists in AA a finite orthogonal family (ei)i∈I(e_i)_{i \in I}, of idempotents such that ∑i∈Iei=1\sum_{i \in I} e_i = 1 and that the image under ahah of V(A′(1−ei′))V(A'(1 - e'_i)) is V(A(1−ei))V(A(1 - e_i)). But clearly V(A(1−ei))V(A(1 - e_i)) is also the image under ahah of

V(A′(1−h(ei′))); V(A'(1 - h(e'_i)));

as 1−ei′1 - e'_i and 1−h(ei)1 - h(e_i) are idempotent, Lemma 2 shows that ei′=h(ei)e'_i = h(e_i), whence the corollary.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
