Commutative Algebra, chapter III, § 3. m-adic topologies on Noetherian rings

Let A\mathbf{A} be a topological ring. If a two-sided ideal mm of A\mathbf{A} is such that the given topology on A\mathbf{A} is the mm-adic topology, mm is called a defining ideal & the topology on A\mathbf{A}.

Let AA be a commutative Noetherian ring, mm an ideal of AA and tt its radical (Chapter II, § 2, no. 6). If m′m' is a defining ideal of the mm-adic topology, there exists an integer n>0n > 0 such that m′n⊂m{m'}^n \subset m (§2§ 2, no. 5) and hence m′⊂tm' \subset t; conversely, since AA is Noetherian, there exists an integer k>0k > 0 such that tk⊂mt^k \subset m (Chapter II, § 2, no. 6, Proposition 15) and hence tt is the largest defining ideal of the mm-adic topology.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
