Commutative Algebra, chapter III, § 3. m-adic topologies on Noetherian rings
Let be a commutative Noetherian ring, an ideal of , the multiplicative subset of and a finitely generated -module. Under these conditions:
(i) is a Zariski ring with the ()-adic topology.
(ii) The canonical mapping is continuous if is given the m-adic topology and the -adic topology and is an isomorphism.
Every element of is of the form
where and ; it is therefore invertible in , which proves that is contained in the Jacobson radical of ; as is Noetherian (Chapter II, § 2, no. 4, Corollary 2 to Proposition 10), is a Zariski ring with the -adic topology, which proves (i). Let us show (ii). For all ,
for clearly first of all ; conversely, let be an element of ; then there exist elements of and such that , whence , where
and ; we conclude that
This proves that is a strict morphism. Moreover, the kernel of , which is the set of for which there exists some such that , is identical with the kernel of the canonical mapping (no. 2, Proposition 5). Then there is a topological isomorphism such that ; as is a topological isomorphism, the problem reduces to verifying that is dense in . Now every element of may be written as , where , and it is immediately verified that
which completes the proof.
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
