Commutative Algebra, chapter III, § 3. m-adic topologies on Noetherian rings

Let AA be a commutative Noetherian ring, mm an ideal of AA and EE a finitely generated AA-module. The closure ⋂n=1mmnE\bigcap_{n=1}^m m^nE *of {0}\{0\} in EE with respect to the mm-adic topology is the set of x∈Ex \in E for which there exists an element m∈mm \in m such that (1−m)x=0(1 - m)x = 0.

If x=mxx = mx where m∈mm \in m, x=mnx∈mnEx = m^n x \in m^nE for every integer n≥0n \geq 0 and hence x∈F=⋂n=0mmnEx \in F = \bigcap_{n=0}^m m^nE. Conversely, if x∈Fx \in F, AxAx is contained in the intersection of the neighbourhoods of 0 in EE; it then follows from Theorem 2 that the mm-adic topology on AxAx, which is induced by that on EE, is the coarsest topology; as mxmx is by definition a neighbourhood of 0 with this topology, mx=Axmx = Ax and hence there exists m∈mm \in m such that x=mxx = mx.

We may also say that mF=FmF = F since

F=⋂n=1∞mn+1E⊂m.⋂n=1∞mnE=mF; F = \bigcap_{n=1}^\infty m^{n+1}E \subset m. \bigcap_{n=1}^\infty m^nE = mF;
as AA is Noetherian, FF is a finitely generated AA-module; it is then sufficient to apply Chapter II, § 2, no. 2, Corollary 3 to Proposition 4.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
