Commutative Algebra, chapter III, § 3. m-adic topologies on Noetherian rings
Let be two commutative rings and a ring homomorphism. Suppose that is Noetherian and that is a finitely generated -module (with the structure defined by ). Let be an ideal of and let . Then:
(i) For the -adic topology on to be Hausdorff, it is necessary and sufficient that the elements of be not divisors of in .
(ii) If with the -adic topology is a Zariski ring, then with the -adic topology is a Zariski ring.
(iii) If is injective (thus identifying with a subring of ), the -adic topology on induces on the -adic topology.
Recall that the -adic filtration on coincides with the -adic filtration on the A-module (§ 2, no. 1, Example 3). Assertion (i) is thus a special case of Proposition 5 of no. 2 and assertion (iii) a special case of Theorem 2 of no. 2. Finally let us show (ii). Suppose that is a Zariski ring with the -adic topology and let be a finitely generated -module; it is also a finitely generated -module and the -adic and -adic filtrations on coincide; then is Hausdorff with the -adic topology. Finally the -module is Noetherian and hence the ring is Noetherian, which completes the proof that is a Zariski ring.
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
