Commutative Algebra, chapter III, § 4. Lifting in complete rings

Let A,BA, B be two linearly topologized commutative rings, BB being Hausdorff and complete, and u:A→Bu : A \to B a continuous homomorphism. For every family b=(bi)1≤i≤pb = (b_i)_{1 \leq i \leq p} of elements of BB, there exists a unique continuous homomorphism

u~:A{X1,…,Xp}→B \tilde{u} : A\{X_1, \ldots, X_p\} \to B
such that u~(a)=u(a)\tilde{u}(a) = u(a) for all a∈Aa \in A and u~(Xi)=bi\tilde{u}(X_i) = b_i for 1≤i≤p1 \leq i \leq p.

There exists a unique homomorphism v:A[X1,…,Xp]→Bv : A[X_1, \ldots, X_p] \to B such that v(a)=u(a)v(a) = u(a) for a∈Aa \in A and v(Xi)=biv(X_i) = b_i for 1≤i≤p1 \leq i \leq p. Moreover, if J\mathfrak{J} is a neighbourhood of 0 in BB which is an ideal, u‾−1(J)=3\overline{u}^{-1}(\mathfrak{J}) = 3 is an ideal of AA which is a neighbourhood of 0 and, for every polynomial P∈NJP \in \mathbf{N}_\mathfrak{J}, clearly v(P)∈Jv(P) \in \mathfrak{J} and hence vv is continuous. As A[X1,…,Xp]A[X_1, \ldots, X_p] is dense in A{X1,…,Xp}A\{X_1, \ldots, X_p\}, the existence and uniqueness of u~\tilde{u} follow from General Topology, Chapter 111,§ 3, no. 3, Proposition 5 and the principle of extension of identities.

In the special case where A=BA = B and uu is the identity mapping we shall write f(b1,…,bp)f(b_1, \ldots, b_p) or f(b)f(b) for the value of u~(f)\tilde{u}(f) for every restricted formal power series f∈A{X1,…,Xp}f \in A\{X_1, \ldots, X_p\}.

Remarks

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
