Commutative Algebra, chapter III, § 4. Lifting in complete rings
The corollary applies notably when is invertible in ; we can then also deduce the existence of from Hensel's Theorem, for the canonical image of in is of the form and being strongly relatively prime, for is the image of (no. 1, Example).
Examples (1) Let be a prime number and an integer whose class mod. is a square in the prime field . If is the ring of -adic integers (§ 2, no. 12, Example 3), the application of Corollary 1 to the polynomial shows that is a square in ; for example 7 is a square in . (2) Let be the ring of formal power series in one indeterminate with coefficients in a commutative field ; with the -adic topology, the ring is Hausdorff and complete (§ 2, no. 6, Corollary to Proposition 6) and the mapping defines by passing to the quotient ring an isomorphism of onto the field . By Corollary 1, if is a polynomial in with coefficients in and is a simple root of in , there exists a unique formal power series such that and .
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
