Commutative Algebra, chapter IV, § 1. Prime ideals associated with a module

Let AA be a Noetherian ring, MM an AA-module and aa an element of AA. For the homothety on MM with ratio aa to be injective, it is necessary and sufficient that aa belong to no prime ideal associated with MM.

If aa belongs to a prime ideal p∈Ass⁡(M)p \in \operatorname{Ass}(M), then p=Ann⁡(x)p = \operatorname{Ann}(x), where x∈M,x≠0x \in M, x \neq 0; whence ax=0ax = 0 and the homothety with ratio aa is not injective. Conversely, if ax=0ax = 0 for some x∈Mx \in M such that x#0x \# 0, then Ax#{0}Ax \# \{0\}, whence Ass⁡(x)≠∅\operatorname{Ass}(x) \neq \varnothing (Corollary 1). Let p∈Ass⁡(Ax)p \in \operatorname{Ass}(Ax); then obviously p∈Ass⁡(M)p \in \operatorname{Ass}(M) and p=Ann⁡(bx)p = \operatorname{Ann}(bx), where b∈Ab \in A; whence a∈pa \in p, since abx=0abx = 0.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
