Commutative Algebra, chapter IV, § 2. Primary decomposition
Suppose that is prime for all . Then, if are the minimal elements of , the are minimal elements of
Examples (1) Let us take , where is a multiplicative subset of ; if is Noetherian, the hypotheses of Proposition 11 are satisfied and we recover a part of Proposition 6 of no. 4. (2) Let be a Noetherian ring, an ideal of and the Hausdorff completion of with respect to the -adic topology; then is a flat -module and Theorem 2 may be applied with ; but in general the hypotheses of Proposition 11 are not satisfied for the prime ideals of (Chapter III, § 2, Exercise 15 (b)). (3) Let be a Noetherian ring and the polynomial algebra ; is Noetherian and is a free -module and therefore flat. Also, if is a prime ideal of , is isomorphic to , which is an integral domain, and hence is prime; the hypotheses of Proposition 11 are therefore satisfied for every -module and every submodule of . (4) Let be a finitely generated algebra over a field , an extension of and the algebra over obtained by extension of scalars; and are Noetherian and is a free -module and hence Theorem 2 may be applied to . In certain cases (for example if is algebraically closed) it can be shown that for every prime ideal of , is prime or equal to ; we shall return later to this example.
Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
