Commutative Algebra, chapter VI, § 9. Application: locally compact fields

Let ss be an integer >0> 0; the subfield Fq((Ts))=L\mathbf{F}_q((T^s)) = L of K=Fq((T))K = \mathbf{F}_q((T)) is closed in KK and e(K/L)=se(K/L) = s and f(K/L)=1f(K/L) = 1. It is therefore seen that there are closed subfields LL of KK which are not discrete and such that e(K/L)e(K/L) (and a fortiori the degree [K:L][K:L]) is arbitrarily large (contrary to what happens for locally compact fields of characteristic 0, where every locally compact subfield LL of such a field KK necessarily contains R\mathbf{R} or Qp\mathbf{Q}_p and therefore [K:L][K:L] is bounded).

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
