Algebra, chapter I, § 6. Extensions, solvable groups, nilpotent groups

Let FF and GG be two groups and τ\tau a homomorphism of GG into the automorphism group of FF. Write τ(g)(f)=gf\tau(g)(f) = gf for g∈Gg \in G and f∈Ff \in F. The set F×GF \times G with the law of composition

((f,g),(f′,g′))↦(f,g)⋅τ(f′,g′)=(f⋅gf′,gg′) ((f, g), (f', g')) \mapsto (f, g) \cdot_{\tau} (f', g') = (f \cdot gf', gg')

is called the external semi-direct product of GG by FF relative to τ\tau.

The external semi-direct product of GG by FF relative to τ\tau is denoted by F×τGF \times_{\tau} G.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
