Algebra, chapter I, § 6. Extensions, solvable groups, nilpotent groups

Let GG be a group. The subgroup generated by the commutators of elements of GG is called the derived group of GG.

The derived group of GG is thus the subgroup (G,G)(G, G). It is also denoted by D(G)D(G). By an abuse of language, it is sometimes called the commutator group of GG although it is in general distinct from the set of commutators of elements of GG (Exercise 16). D(G)={e}D(G) = \{e\} if and only if GG is commutative.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
