Algebra, chapter I, § 9. Fields

Let K\mathbf{K} be a field and A\mathbf{A} a non-zero ring. If ff is a homomorphism of K\mathbf{K} into A\mathbf{A}, then the subring f(K)f(\mathbf{K}) of A\mathbf{A} is a field and ff defines an isomorphism of K\mathbf{K} onto f(K)f(\mathbf{K}).

Let aa be the kernel of ff. Then 1∉a1 \notin a for f(1)=1≠0f(1) = 1 \neq 0 in A\mathbf{A} and, as aa is a left ideal of K\mathbf{K}, a={0}a = \{0\} by Theorem 1. Therefore ff is injective and hence an isomorphism of K\mathbf{K} onto the subring f(K)f(\mathbf{K}) of A\mathbf{A}; the latter ring is therefore a field.

Bourbaki puts the proof directly after the statement, so what is above is the statement and its proof together.
